5 Must Follow Website Design
They say that there’s no second chance to make a first impression, that’s generally the case for potential clients, or prospects when they first visit your website. You must pay extra attention to the following five rules, regardless of what your web designer tell you.
Rule Number One – The King of Rules: Do not ever use splash page or flash intro page.
Splash page or flash intro page is the first page someone sees when they first a website. For those fancying great graphics, or things moving around with sound, think twice before you decide to post one of those. What exactly is the purpose of the splash page? To show off your web designer’s graphic skills? to make your visitors wait and have to click to get to the meat of your web content? Give it up! Don’t give your visit a reason to close this window, give them some information from the go. Most likely, a visitor is visiting your site for information, a cute picture, or flashing animation isn’t what they’re looking for.
Rule number Two: KISS or Keep It Simple Stup–
This rule is especially important when it comes to your navigation. Again, stay away from flash if possible. Not everyone is as technology savvy as you or your web designer, you must provide a navigation that allows each user to get the information he or she needs quickly, without having to think twice about it. The longer it takes for someone to find the information, the less time they have to actually read it. Keep it simple.
Rule number Three: Make your contact information readily available
You want your website visitor to become your clients or customers, right? Then make sure your contact information is readily available on every page. Whether it’s a live chat, or the phone number for your office, make sure, they’re noticeable.
Rule Number Four: No banner advertisements
Even the least net savvy web users have trained themselves to ignore banner advertisements. So why waste valuable page space? Provide better content; give your visitors more information. Be smart, and include advertising within your content. Don’t shelve advertising in their face, let them choose what they do or do not want
Rule Number Five: No Audios, especially background music
Unless you’re a creative studio, or a bar/nightclub, your background music serves only as a distraction. If web visitors are interested in music, they probably have Internet radio playing already… When they’re on your website, they just want information, not your music preference.
Website is more than these rules, but these rules will certainly help you get and maintain your targeted audience. If you have questions about your website, feel free to contact me at info@kurtislangford.com.
